Too Busy to Type!!!

Well, well, well. It's been a month since our last update. And the reason being, we have been completely rushed off our feet. We've just been too busy to keep you up to date with the latest from Mono HQ. We can only apologise for our exremely tight schedule of late but we are very grateful for your continuing support and for attending our gigs over the last few weeks. We'll try to give you a quick re-cap...

Too Busy to Type!!!

BBC and Space (NOT Prof. Brian Cox)

Hey Monettes!

Well, what a busy March we've had so far...

On 8th March, we headlined a very special gig at The Cavern, presented by BBC Introducing's Dave Monks. It was recorded live for the BBC and will be broadcast some time in April. Big thanks to Dave Monks for his support of the band so far and for asking us to do the gig!

Kendal is Calling us!

Hey Monettes!

We have exciting news this week - Kendal Calling have asked us to play this year's festival! We are chuffed to bits :)

Our ode to Kendal Calling worked a treat and put a smile on the festival organisers faces, with one of the promoters telling us his mum watched it and demanded that we play! If you haven't seen it already, it's a real 1920s-style treat for your eyes and ears...

"The first thing you notice when you see a Mono LPs gig is the Cellist going crazy in the corner of the stage. Just because they’ve got a classical doesn’t mean their Arcade Fire however; every other aspect of the band is that of an honest-to-goodness, ballsy blues rock group. And the cello isn’t used in the obvious way of supplementing the bass like in ELO. Most of the lines are played higher up on the fret board in the same octaves as a violin and serve as a grandiose, T-Rex style string section to lend a bit of regality to the Mono LP’s massive riffs.

"The Mono Lps were one of the only bands I’d heard of on the bill.

"Second up were the ever-entertaining Mono LPs – firm favourites of the Liverpool rock circuit – who this evening were a four-piece of acoustic guitars, cello and bass; always worth hearing, some light hearted banter helped to lessen the somewhat serious atmosphere erected by staging and respectfully silent audience.  It was interesting to hear this group in a slightly unorthodox setting, and the cello playing of Vicky Mutch and lead guitar of Luciano Verghini were particularly clear and resonant.  That said, it was the confident and assured vocal of Ste Reid which defines the Mon

"There are times when you happen upon a lovely little gem of a band which you have a deep seated belief in their potential to be successful in the music world. I am delighted to say I had such an occasion when attending the latest gig from this exciting and extremely talented outfit from my hometown. Too often Merseyside bands have had a difficult time distancing themselves from much of the music talent which has come before. With The Mono LPs this is not the case.

"I’ve seen many bands in recent years who have brought the not particularly novel addition of a fiddler to their band to give it more of a folky or alternative twist, and sometimes it works well and sometimes less so. When The Mono LPs came on stage at the Leaf Cafe with a Cellist, quite frankly I didn’t know what to expect. My concerns though were thankfully unfounded with the Cello adding a gorgeous layer of deep and dark sweetness to the more conventional guitar rock that was swirling around it.

"The Mono Lp’s, played a set for the festival at the Leaf Café, Bold Street, a band who normally have no problems playing to a sell out crowd. Their set, as always, was amazing and enjoyed by all who were there. Ste was rocking out really getting into the music and made you feel like you wanted to run up to the stage and dance with him, while Vicky, as ever added that je n‘est sais quoi, with her rhythmical sensations on her Cello, people were totally blown away."

"Over 3 days there were 200 acts, 160 bands including musicians and DJ’s on 12 stages over 7 floors and some truly amazing talent on show. Kaya Herstand, Festival Director said, ‘Threshold’ is significant because it means ‘a starting point for a new state or experience’ a definition which we apply to the uniqueness of the festival and the venue which, until now, hasn’t been explored in this way.’
